"MIME type configuration" error when launching QuickTime movies |
|
|
Issue:
When attempting to launch a QuickTime movie, a message box pops-up:
Reason:
Other plug-ins can and sometimes do register themselves as being able to handle the video/quicktime MIME
type (whether they really can or not). If the "rogue" plugin cannot handle the MIME type, then
a "broken plug-in" icon being displayed instead of the movie.
This message box notifies you when QuickTime MIME types (e.g. *.mov files) have
been "hijacked" by another application.
Solution:
On the dialog box click 'YES' to restore the MIME type associations back to QuickTime.
Additionally, if you select the "Do not prompt in the future" checkbox, every time you launch a QuickTime MIME type
it will be automatically registered to QuickTime, if it already hasn't.
NOTE: You need to be an Administrator on your local computer for this option to work. Otherwise, the message box will
always pop up when QuickTime MIME types have been deregistered.
