Complementary Strands:

The double strands of DNA come together by the hydrogen bonding of purines to pyrimidines on opposing strands. Therefore, if the nucleotide sequence of one strand is known, the sequence for the other can be constructed using these rules for pairing (adenine goes with thymine; cytosine goes with guanine).
